WECU and Subprime Lending
The term ‘subprime lending’ refers to the practice of making loans to borrowers who do not qualify through conventional methods. In reality borrowers who partake in this type of loan most often receive higher interest rates and unfavorable terms. WECU does not participate in subprime lending. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, it is not in our best interest to fund loans that our members will not be able to afford down the road. WECU’s Real Estate Department works closely with our members to find the most affordable and realistic options to meet their needs.
