About Our Student VISA Program

The goal of our student VISA program is not to promote spending. Rather, our goal is to provide knowledge and opportunity so that our young members can learn money management skills and how to maintain good credit. Our program is designed for members 16 and 17 years of age, and begins with an educational seminar at our Education Center located on E Holly St in Bellingham. Attendance at this seminar is required for students, and we strongly encourage their legal guardian to attend.

Education

The seminar will cover many topics from Credit definitions, credit scores, how loans work, money management skills, the benefits of VISA cards, and what to do in the case that a card is lost or stolen. Upon successful completion of the Student VISA Seminar WECU will issue a $250.00 Student VISA. If this line of credit is maintained in good standing through the end of the program (upon turning 18 years old), we will then offer to issue a standard VISA Classic with a $500.00 credit limit.

  • Automatic eligibility for most borrowers.
  • No medical screening.
  • Premium included in your loan payment.
  • Low group rates that are the same for every borrower.
  • Protection of your loan collateral and credit rating.
