Savings Accounts
The basic building block for your finances
The first account you open at WECU® will be your primary savings account. This is the basic building block of all of our accounts. You can have many personalized sub-savings after you have opened your initial savings account.
Opening a savings account at WECU® only requires an initial deposit of $5.00. All members, regardless of the number of accounts or the amount on deposit have an equal voice at WECU®. Click here to read more about how Credit Unions work. If for any reason you ever need to leave WECU®, your $5.00 will be returned to you.
Your savings account will earn dividends. These dividends are calculated using what is called the "average daily balance" method. The average is determined by adding the balance in your account at the end of each day in the period and dividing the sum by the number of days in the period. This average daily balance is then multiplied by the dividend rate for that period. Dividends are paid on the last day of each quarter. For our current rates, please click here.
Once you open a free checking account, you can access your Savings for free from any of our ATMs throughout Whatcom County, or at thousands of other ATMs across the country.
Federal Regulations allow six (6) unsigned transfers from your savings to your checking account each month. Transfers from savings accounts to loan accounts do not count toward your unsigned
transfers. This includes transfers through the Call Center, Tele-Max, E-Max or by automatic transfers and preauthorized transfers. A preauthorized transfer includes any arrangement with the Credit
Union to pay a third party from the member's account upon oral or written order, including orders received through the automated clearing house(ACH). Transfers from savings accounts to WECU® loan
accounts do not count toward your unsigned transfers.
There is no limit to transfers done over the counter or by mail with your signature, or transfers at ATMs.
