WECU staff lead inspiring campaigns and give generously in support United Way of Whatcom County. Year-over-year, WECU places in the top three Whatcom County campaigns. In 2019, total donations were over $100,000.

In 1980, WECU merged with Medical and Hospital Credit Union. WECU honors this history and today is a major donor of the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation and Whatcom Hospice Foundation.

WECU supports Lydia Place by donating the “Chestnut House.” More than a dozen families have called the Chestnut House home since 2015, each living at the residence for up to six months.

Education is in our DNA.

WECU was founded in 1936 as the Bellingham Teachers Credit Union. Today, in honor of that heritage, WECU annually provides $76,000 in scholarships to four institutions of higher learning.
