Social Responsibility

Our commitment to community

WECU has a strong commitment to the needs of our community and has two committees devoted to social responsibility. The Social Responsibility Committee (SRC) oversees our monetary donations. The committee's emphasis is to support education, health and community concerns. We will actively seek projects that are identified as a strong need in our community, e.g. violence, homelessness, drug abuse. Requests that fall outside of those areas will also be reviewed. Requests are reviewed quarterly by the Social Responsibility Committee, who makes recommendations to the board of directors for approval on donations that align with the committee's goals to benefit our community.

Team WECU oversees WECU participation in local projects and events.

Requests for monetary donations are reviewed by the social responsibility committee quarterly and recommendations are made to the board of directors for approval on projects that align with the committee's goals to benefit our community. Organizations we have supported in the past year are listed below. For more information regarding monetary donations, please visit our Donations page.

Team WECU endeavors to bring fun, rewarding and interesting volunteer opportunities to our WECU staff. Projects are typically one-time 'event' commitments. Requests for Team WECU are reviewed periodically for committee approval. If you are a local nonprofit (501(c)3 or Washington State nonprofit) that needs a few extra pairs of hands for your event, please visit our Team WECU page. We request 3 months' notice in advance of your event.

United Way

Each year WECU's United Way Committee organizes an internal drive encouraging employee donations in support of United Way of Whatcom County's Partner Agencies. WECU not only provides monetary donations, a number of WECU employees are also encouraged to serve with United Way. WECU volunteers have served as United Way Board Members, Funds Distribution Committee Members, Panel Chairs and Campaign Executives. The volunteers help ensure that funds are allocated appropriately and to agencies that address community problems in an efficient and effective manner.

WECU's corporate donation has grown from $8,000 in 1994 to our current annual contribution of $15,000.
