Bellingham, WA (March 27, 2020) — WECU has pledged $30,000 to three local foundations working to help meet the basic needs of our most vulnerable populations during this uncertain time. The Chuckanut Health Foundation, United Way of Whatcom County and the Whatcom Community Foundation will each receive $10,000 donations.

“Our hearts and minds go out to those impacted by the Coronavirus especially vulnerable populations such as low-income families and seniors,” said Jennifer Kutcher, President & CEO of WECU. “Each of these organizations have tremendous track records of serving the community and helping those in need.”

Both the United Way of Whatcom County and Chuckanut Health Foundation have created funds specifically to be used in response to the Coronavirus.

“100% of our Emergency Recovery Fund donations will go to Whatcom County nonprofits providing critical services for those who are struggling financially in our community,” said Peter Theisen, President/CEO of United Way of Whatcom County.

“WECU’s generous donation will help these agencies continue to provide basic needs such as food, housing, and health services, both now and in the future.”

The foundations will work with local government agencies, nonprofits and healthcare providers and use donated funds to respond to the most pressing community needs caused by COVID-19.
