BELLINGHAM (January 23, 2024) — WECU and Western Washington University will co-host two WECU Nights at WWU during the 2023-2024 basketball season. The first event will be on January 25, as the WWU women’s team battles SPU, and the second event will be on February 8, as the WWU men’s team takes on SPU.
To celebrate WECU’s partnership with WWU Athletics and give back to its membership, WECU members will receive up to four free tickets at each game. As a bonus, the first 250 fans will receive a limited edition WWU Victor the Viking bobblehead courtesy of WECU.
“WECU Night at WWU is a great opportunity for the community and our members to come out and cheer on their local college team,” said WECU Director of Public Relations Keith Mader.
WECU’s support for Western athletics extends beyond these events, as the teams have been playing on WECU Court since 2018. The funds contributed by WECU for the court sponsorship are dedicated to funding student-athlete scholarships. Additionally, WECU provides an additional $20,000 in student scholarships.
“At WECU, we believe in supporting our community, and our partnership with WWU is a big part of that,” added Mader. “We are excited to work with Western to provide this experience for our membership, the students, and the community.”
In a landmark move in 2023, WECU solidified its commitment to Western Washington University by entering into an agreement pledging $500,000 in support over the next five years. This collaborative effort marks a significant milestone in a longstanding relationship that has roots tracing back to WECU’s establishment in 1936. The partnership spans various dimensions, including sponsorships for key events, provision of scholarships, and the renewal of naming rights for WECU Court in the prestigious Carver Gymnasium.
