Fiercely passionate about WECU’s membership and community, Jennifer Kutcher leads the WECU team and ensures the credit union is aligned with its mission of making a meaningful difference in the lives of its members. Currently WECU’s President & Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer started out as an Accounting Intern before moving through a variety of roles within the credit union. Those roles included VP of Lending and Chief Financial Officer. She assumed her current position at the helm of the Credit Union in 2014. As a lifelong learner, Jennifer graduated from WWU with a degree in finance and has also earned the Certified Chief Executive distinction from the Wharton School of Business, Cornell University, Darden Graduate School of Management, and MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Jeff is a lifelong Whatcom County resident and has been a WECU employee since 1996, starting as a teller and then moving through a variety of positions such as Lynden Branch Manager, Chief Lending Officer, and Chief Operations Officer. Since February 2016 he has served as WECU’s Executive Vice President and oversees all member-facing areas of the credit union and the member experience. Jeff graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and has also earned the Certified Chief Executive distinction from the Wharton School of Business, Cornell University, and Darden Graduate School of Management. He is an earnest leader, dedicated to providing membership with the ultimate credit union experience.

As WECU’s Chief Information Officer, hired in 2017, Jack oversees the envisioning and development of complex technology initiatives that bring solutions-based results. For WECU, Jack builds and governs IT strategy and the securitization of computer systems required to support the credit union’s objectives and goals. Ensuring membership has the access they need and want to their finances is pivotal to every decision and strategic move made.

David has served as WECU’s Chief Marketing Officer since 2016. He oversees brand strategy, digital marketing, advertising and promotions, product development, market and member research, community giving and goodwill, public relations and social media. He and his team strive to create authentic and meaningful engagement with members to deepen brand loyalty and relationships. With a strong background in journalism and advertising, David emphasizes the creation of differentiating experiences that place member needs at the forefront of every decision.

Cindy’s passion is in the development and implementation of talent strategy, helping WECU meet its performance goals and onboard the best of the best in the banking and finance industry. Serving as WECU’s Chief Human Resources Officer since 2016, she oversees talent acquisition, staff development, employee engagement and performance development. She works toward curating a company culture that aligns with WECU’s values and community-based mission.

Serving as WECU’s Chief Financial Officer, Nick helps to ensure WECU’s continued financial success by serving as a collaborative leader in pursuit of the strategic vision and goals. He oversees and provides strategic direction of WECU’s accounting, finance, and risk management functions. Nick attended the University of Phoenix where he completed both a master’s degree in Business Administration-Finance and Bachelor of Science-Accounting and Finance.

Carol Lager

Carol Lager
Carol currently serves as Board Chair. She served on WECU’s Supervisory Committee from 2006 until early 2014, when she was appointed to WECU’s Board of Directors. During her term on the Supervisory Committee, Carol functioned as Chair for several years. Carol taught business and computer classes at Nooksack, Sehome, and Bellingham Technical College for over 25 years. She was the Dean of Health, Sciences, and General Education for 5 years at BTC and ended her career serving as the Vice President of Instruction for 3 years.

Margo Hammond

Currently serving as the Board Secretary, Margo worked 30 years at the BP, Cherry Point Refinery, in several departments including Quality Assurance Laboratory, and Finance, Control, and Accounting. She has also worked at several positions at Western Washington University. In addition to her work history, she has over 25 years' experience volunteering on a variety of community boards including WWU College of Science and Engineering, Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, American Association of University Women, and Spark Museum of Electrical Invention. Margo has also volunteered at WECU as a member of the Social Responsibility Committee and as an Associate Board Member.

Harte Bressler

Harte Bressler
Harte has served on WECU’s Board of Directors since August 2011, and is currently serving as Vice-chair. Harte was a member of the WECU Supervisory Committee from 1996-2017. Harte is the treasurer and a director of the Mt. Baker Ski Area, and is also a member of the Finance Committee of Whatcom Land Trust. Harte has held board positions in the past with PeaceHealth/St. Joseph Medical Center; Whatcom Land Trust, Bellingham Mountain Rescue Council, Foundation for Glacier & Environmental Research (Alaska), Mt. Baker Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Bellingham YMCA, and Bellingham Bay Rotary Club.

Kristi Lewis Tyran

Kristi has served as Board Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, and on a variety of board committees. Dr. Tyran’s research, teaching and consulting focus in the areas of leadership and team development. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Tyran was Vice President of Public Finance and Commercial Lending at Bank of America and Key Bank of Alaska. In October 2012, Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics selected Dr. Tyran as its 2012-2013 Distinguished Teaching Fellow. In addition to her professional work, she has over 30 years’ experience volunteering on a variety of community boards.

Ashok Khanna

Ashok Khanna
For over 20 years, Ashok has volunteered his time serving WECU. During his tenure, he has served on both WECU’s Supervisory Committee and Board in a variety of capacities such as Supervisory Committee Chair, and Board Chair, Vice-chair, and Secretary. In 2014 and 2015 Ashok also served on the Nominating Committee, being appointed Chair in 2015. More recently, Ashok served on WECU’s CEO Compensation Committee. In India, Ashok worked as a banker but in Bellingham, he has been involved in restaurant and retail management for the past 30 years.

Cathie has served as Board Chair, Vice-chair, and Secretary. She has also served on the Nominating, Credit, Partnering, Strategic Planning and Membership Linkage Committees. Cathie has served on the Camp Fire Samish Council Board, as a volunteer coordinator for the annual Ski-to-Sea Race, President of the Bellingham Branch of the American Association of University Women, committee member of the Whatcom Co. Chapter of the WWU Alumni Association and is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Cathie has taught in the Meridian School District, in Fulda, Germany, and in North Pole, Alaska.

Dale Zender

Dale recently retired after being employed for the past 37 years by PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, a Washington not-for-profit corporation sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. During his tenure, Dale built a distinguished and diversified career in the health care industry developing impressive credentials in operations and finance. Dale is well versed in strategic planning and has a deep understanding of all aspects of healthcare operations and management. He is viewed as a servant leader; confident, patient, determined and constantly aspiring to learn new things. Dale received the Whatcom Business Alliance 2015 Business Person of the Year Award, and in 2011 was the recipient of the rare “John Tiscornia Award” – honoring at least 20 years of service modeling outstanding leadership, stewardship and exemplification of PeaceHealth values.

David has been employed by Ershigs for 26 years, including positions of Contract Manager, JBR Manager and Senior Project Manager. In his tenure on the WECU Board, David has served on various committees, in addition to serving as WECU’s Board Chair, Vice-chair, and Secretary. His other WECU involvement has included working on the Executive, Partnering, Social Responsibility, Strategic Planning, Nominating, and Credit Committees. WECU’s Team WECU (formerly known as SET) projects have been particular favorites of David’s.

Jennifer Wright
Jennifer joined the Bellingham community and Metcalf Hodges in 2009 where she specializes in tax and estate planning. Active in the community, Jennifer serves as treasurer on the boards of the Whatcom Land Trust and the Whatcom FC Rangers, and is currently serving as Chair of the Supervisory Committee. She has also served on the boards of the Northwest Washington Estate Planning Council and Common Threads Farm.

Shonda Shipman

Shonda Shipman
Shonda was elected to the Supervisory Committee in 2014 and has served as the Committee Chair for two terms. Shonda is currently employed with Whatcom Transportation Authority as the Director of Finance. Prior work experience includes Whatcom County Public Works and Western Washington University. Shonda has also worked in public accounting, and holds her CPA license.

In his tenure on WECU’s Supervisory Committee, Kurt has served as member and as Chair. Kurt has served 33 years at Western, the past 25 as Associate Director, responsible for the finance and technology matters of the university’s Housing & Dining system, overseeing financial planning, budgeting, capital financing, audits, multiple contracts, campus ID program, technology, and other duties as assigned! Prior to this role he served in other student housing positions at WWU, University of Washington, and the University of California, Davis. Kurt is active in his church community and lives with his wife Katherine and college-attending daughter Kelsey.
