Your credit score can put up roadblocks in your life. With bad credit, it’s hard to get a loan, get an apartment, receive affordable insurance – even get a job. So, how about a free way to build good credit?
There’s something called a secured credit card. If a secured credit card has, let’s say, a limit of $400, the borrower would then have to save $400. That money is set aside, frozen into a savings account, and that becomes the security for the credit union. Use the credit card to purchase items that are kind of boring, unlikely to overspend on – like medical co-pays or car insurance. Pay it off every month, that way you’re not charged interest and it’s free. Keep the balance below 30% of the limit, make on-time payments, and there you have it – your credit will improve and it’s free.
