BELLINGHAM, WA (October 2, 2026) – In celebration of International Credit Union Day and the cooperative spirit of the credit union movement, WECU is joining forces with local credit unions and community organizations for a series of service and giving opportunities throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties from September 30 through October 16.
Planned activities include:
- Sept. 30: Bite of Reality financial simulation program at Blaine High School
- Oct. 3: Volunteering with Tri-Parish Food Bank in Burlington
- Oct. 8: Volunteering with Bellingham Food Bank
- Oct. 10: Volunteering at Pass Lake Reforestation Project in Deception Pass State Park
- Oct. 14: Blood drive with Bloodworks Northwest at WECU’s administrative office
- Oct. 15: Volunteering with Helping Hands Food Bank in Sedro-Woolley
- Oct. 16: A fundraising pint night for credit union professionals which will take place at Stemma Brewery and raise funds for Communities in Schools of Whatcom-Skagit
All events will include participation from other credit unions including Industrial Credit Union, North Coast Credit Union, Northwest Plus Credit Union, Global Credit Union, Harborstone Credit Union, and West Edge Credit Union.
“Credit unions have always been about people helping people, and this is a great example of what that looks like when we work together,” said Cherish Flint, Director of Advocacy at WECU. “International Credit Union Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate the credit union movement, but more importantly, it gives us an opportunity to put our values into action and show up for the communities we serve.”
International Credit Union Day is celebrated annually by credit unions around the world and recognizes the cooperative movement and the role credit unions play in serving their members and communities.
