Bellingham, Washington (March 22, 2018) — WECU, Whatcom County’s largest community credit union, today announced it will offer helping businesses affected by the novel Coronavirus.

The loan program, aimed at lessening the economic blow of the Coronavirus, consists of loan payment deferral for up to 90 days for WECU business loans, lines of credit of up to $50,000.

WECU has made a donation of $25,000 to the Opportunity Council Preschool Services’ Project X-it. Project X-it is a program that facilitates financial education for families facing financial hardship, in an attempt to disrupt the cycle of generational poverty. WECU hopes this donation, in conjunction with its rebrand launch, demonstrate its commitment to the community, education and financial wellness.

“We are excited to partner with The Opportunity Council and Project X-It. We are strong believers in the work they’re doing and share in their commitment to making a difference in Whatcom County,” WECU President & CEO Jennifer Kutcher said.

Opportunity Council’s Preschool Services operate 24 classrooms across Whatcom County, ranging from Sumas, Blaine, Ferndale, Kendall and Lynden to the very center of Bellingham. There are 256 Head Start slots and 143 ECEAP slots.

WECU supports many non-profits, but typically with smaller donation amounts. This is one of the credit union’s largest donations ever.

WECU’s donation will support staffing, facility rentals, supplies and incentives for participants. If you would like to donate to the Opportunity Council Preschool Services visit oppco.org.
