WECU is transforming underused assets into community value with a sustainability-first approach to redevelopment on Holly Street.
Rather than demolishing the deteriorated 1906 Tasker Law Office, WECU partnered with Reuse Consulting to deconstruct it, preserving up to 85% of materials and saving disposal costs and landfill space. Salvaged materials—including historic wood and fixtures—will be repurposed, minimizing environmental impact.
In another example of reuse, WECU donated surplus office furniture from a recent remodel to Lighthouse Mission Ministries, supporting its growing capacity to serve people experiencing homelessness.
“These efforts show how we can be both resourceful and community-minded,” said Jeff Ziels, Director of Facilities.
The Tasker site will become the main entrance and parking lot for WECU’s newly renovated Holly Street branch, which will feature two drive-up ATMs and enhanced member service spaces. Future redevelopment of nearby vacant properties may support housing or commercial development.
WECU’s move to a centralized HQ at 21 Bellwether Way in 2023 freed up these properties, allowing the credit union to use its real estate more purposefully.
“This work reflects who we are,” said WECU CEO Jennifer Kutcher. “It’s about making thoughtful choices for our members, community, and environment.”
